Conclusion
No interaction takes place that does not result in communication. Every time the LPN/LVN interacts with a patient, there is opportunity for a positive or negative outcome. By becoming familiar with therapeutic communication techniques and practicing them to become proficient in their use, the nurse has the ability to promote a helping relationship with the patient. By also being aware of factors that affect communication and of blocks to communication, the LPN/LVN succeeds in preventing interactions that might negatively affect the patient’s self esteem and sense of worth.
