Objectives and Characteristics of Practical/Vocational Nursing Education

The objectives for practical and vocational nursing education are the following:

•To acquire the specialized knowledge and skills needed to meet the health care needs of patients in a variety of settings
•To be a graduate of a state-approved practical or vocational nursing program
•To take and pass the NCLEX-PN examination
•To acquire a state license to practice

To accomplish these objectives, students must assume responsibility for their own education, intensive study, and dedication to duty. Organization of time effectively helps accomplish these objectives and ultimately assures the patient of safe and competent care.
