3) Involving Mrs. Lopez
Even if I try to talk to Alex on my own trying to comfort him it might not be the best help because to him I am a stranger and he is not comfortable with me like he is with his mother. So I would try to talk to Alex but also try to explain to his mother so then she can communicate the information back to him ad comfort him more. Even though we’re trying to comfort the child we also have to make sure the mother is well. We have to take her concerns seriously so she feels understood and more at ease because if the mother is stressed the child might reflect that.
I would explain step by step what I would be doing to Mrs Lopez so she’s in the loop and tell her what to expect from todays examination. So the vitals like I’m taking his temp his weight etc and explain certain details if necessary.if he’s in for imuization explain that to her also
Then she can repeat that info to Alex
And finally I would just tell Mrs Lopez that it’s okay if she wants to hold Alex hand or do something comforting while we are doing the examination it might ease up both of them
