I would approach Alex by giving him a high five to build trust in him with me. Then I would probably say friendly words or phrases like “champion”, “friend”, “hero”. After that I would probably ask him how his day is going, or what cartoons he likes to build a conversation with him. My language and tone would definitely be friendly, and I would avoid medical jargon. Also, having a stress ball or stickers for Alex could potentially decrease stress and tension. Overall, just being king, genuine, and delivering health care could create a positive experience.
