Group Scenario Discussion Assignment: Cleanliness in Pediatric Healthcare Facilities

Objective:To engage in a collaborative discussion that explores the importance of cleanliness in pediatric healthcare facilities and the implementation of essential practices and protocols to ensure a safe, hygienic, and supportive environment for young patients and their families.

    (BreAna) Scenario 2:

    – A newly established pediatric clinic needs to develop a comprehensive plan for the disinfection and sterilization of medical equipment. Discuss the steps involved in creating this plan, including the selection of child-friendly cleaning agents and the frequency of disinfection. Consider the unique needs of pediatric patients in your discussion.

    Discussion Points:

    1. Identify the key issues presented in your scenario.

    Preventing cross-contamination

    Regular cleaning and disinfection

    Ensuring safety of pediatric patients

    Keeping history records

    Creating a comfortable environment

    2. Discuss how these issues impact the safety, comfort, and well-being of young patients and their families.

Cross-contamination is an issue that impacts the safety of young patients and their families because it can spread germs and cause different types of health risks especially for kids since they have weaker immune systems.

Not cleaning and disinfecting can affect the well-being of young patients and their families because it can cause infections and illness. It’s also a transmission that can leave negative effects for young patients and families.

Not ensuring safety of pediatric patients has an impact on the young patients and their families because it can cause lack of trust and confidence.

Not having a comfortable environment for young patients and their families can show signs of unprofessionalism. It can cause stress and anxiety. It can also make them not want to trust you.

    3. Propose practical solutions and strategies to address these issues.

-Solutions and strategies to address these issues might be having any family come to the clinics with good hygiene and if anyone is sick with a contagious disease they should wear a mask.

-When clinics deal with patients that have a contagious disease they should clean all the supplies with a stronger solution and have them in a separate room.

-Having patients always sanitize their hands

-Making sure that the waiting room or any of the other rooms are all clean and not messy

    4. Consider the role of healthcare providers and cleaning staff in implementing these solutions.

To keep the place safe it is going to take everyone’s Input to make sure that it is as sanitized as possible. cleaning staff do have their job focused on sanitizing. However, even the healthcare providers have to put in their part. First,we have to establish that things are at least sanitary and make a plan to see who can be in charge of sanitizing them. and make a consistent schedule for sanitizing those and it doesn’t have to be all on the cleaning staff schedule. It could be divided among the healthcare providers and cleaning staff. Make sure that we have documentation of when it was last clean as we do with everything else in the clinic.

    5. Discuss the potential challenges in implementing your proposed solutions and how to overcome them.

Some potential challenges that could come with trying to implement these solutions is those that don’t like to wear masks or refuse to wear masks, but ways to overcome that is to have some visual explanations on what could happen if you were to have contagious illness and what the dangerous outcomes could come from it you were to not wear a mask you’d be putting others at risk.

A challenge we could run into when using stronger solutions is that some people might say the stronger solutions can come with an odor, a way to overcome that is to try and find scentless solutions that are still just as strong without affecting those with sensitivity to smells.

A challenge with implementing the cleanliness of the waiting room is there being a chance of the people assigned for cleaning of waiting room to not put their full effort, and a way to overcome this is to have another set of people come after them to check off whether or not they cleaned to their best abilities.

    Scenario #3:

It is obvious that the patient in a clinical or hospital setting should be the first priority. Therefore, we need to focus on renewing the disposal system. It is proven that an outdated disposal system can lead towards unhygienic and unsafe practices that lead to disease spreading, accidents, and even death. My solution to this problem would be to buy designated bins and trash cans towards certain purposes. For example, we could buy more bins for biohazards and sharps. The bins or trash can be reused. To add on we could do the same by adding recycling, trash, and plant material bins. Furthermore, we could buy trash containers that could be designated to have certain purposes. These containers could be put in the parking lot, and this is where trash bags could be thrown away in.

      Hi Emmanuel,

Your idea on making bins for all certain objects is an awesome idea for hospitals and clinical places to keep everything safe for yourself and patients to be safe. Also of you thinking on putting trash bins in parking lots to keep everything clean and safe.

Discuss the impact of poor waste management on patient safety and propose a new waste management strategy that includes proper segregation, disposal, and recycling practices.

The impact of the poor waste management can cause very serious and dangerous actions it can harm or transmit germs that can be deadly to the patients and clinical assistance to keep the patient safe and everyone that surrounds the area it’s better to have proper hygiene and have a cycle that has everything in order like a new waste management that will keep things separate such as hazard materials in one disposal and recycle practices in other also waste like trash material in another disposal it’s more safer this way because if keeps everything together. It can be pretty challenging for the people that collect the trash and having everything separate will help you as a medical assistant and the community a better environment.

I like your idea of having certain waste in separate things to make cleaning easier and safer, also how you acknowledged who could be at risk if there is poor waste management.

In my scenario the key issues are in the pediatric health facility they are struggling to keep the clinic clean and optimizing the safety and well being of patients care. Having sanitation as an issue, problems like communicable diseases or viruses can spread, patients’ parents will be weary and unsafe about the care they will receive, and if the clinic is not properly clean and presentable our staff and clinic will look unprofessionally and untrustworthy. Practical solutions and strategies would be our staff team picking up after themselves, following the regulations of opening/ closing the clinic, creating a strutted cleaning schedule daily, making sure every staff member is contributing and completing the important task of having a clean and sanitized facility for both patients and staff. It is important overall to have a clean and sanitized facility so doing things like following strict hygiene protocols, following procedures to prevent contamination, monitor cleanliness levels, identify areas that require more sanitation than others, and implement teamwork. Some challenges that could arise in our scheduling process include staff not being responsible for their task and responsibilities, and ensuring each employee is responsible for sanitizing and sterilizing the clinic. Ways to overcome these challenges would be having separate signing charts for when people complete their task, having teamwork, and establishing open communication between staff members.

    Irma’s Scenario 5

The issue is A Pediatric Hospital want to achieve is to build trust so families and patients aren’t concerned on the cleanliness in the clinic because they are trying to avoid cross contamination with something or someone. So what the workers at the clinic need to do is spread news that they are letting the patients that enter this hospital know they are very serious on cleanliness. If the Hospital wasn’t clean or safe for families and other patients they would have to shut down until they get an inspection and workers would be out of a job or a little bit. Also families wont be able to be seen for a while. The people can also get health risk factors when they are somewhere its dirty and unsafe for anyone like catch a disease, infection, or life risk all because the hospital wasn’t following protocol to keep everything clean.

The key issues in the scenario include not enough cleaning data leading to increased infections among patients in a pediatric healthcare skills. To address these issues a update cleaning schedule and data should be proposed, focusing on consistent cleaning schedules proper disinfection techniques attention to high touch surface appropriate cleaning products and staff training.

These issues impact on the safety and comfort to this young patients and families by being nice and clean having a clean clinic and clean equipment, having a professional being not being rude or giving attitude.

To address the increase in infections among patients at the pediatric healthcare facility.several gaps in the current cleaning guideline for communicating data for waiting areas, examination rooms and restrooms need to be considered.

to deal with more infections the pediatric healthcare facility should change how they clean. they should clean more often, use the right disinfectants focus on surface that get touched a lot and make sure items patients often touch are thoroughly clean. Healthcare providers should help keep things clean and cleaning staff should get proper training. plus there should be regular checks to make sure cleaning practices are being followed.

To tackle the rise in infections at the pediatric healthcare facility we need to find gaps in our cleaning routines for waiting areas exam rooms and restrooms. One issue could be that were not cleaning agents or equipment the right way so the disinfection isn’t effective.

    (Irma) Scenario 5:

    – Discuss how these issues impact the safety, comfort, and well-being of young patients and their families.

By maintaining a clean space for young patients and their families, it makes them feel in a more professional environment and in a place where they feel safe and out of danger knowing that they are not exposed to many germs since the area is kept clean.

    – Consider the role of healthcare providers and housekeeping staff in implementing these solutions.

Yes, I consider that both parties should be involved with respect to cleaning solutions since both seek the same objective which is to keep everything in order and clean.

    – Discuss the potential challenges in implementing your proposed solutions and how to overcome them.

A potential problem that may affect this clinic is not having enough funds to buy the required equipment. Another concern is that patients may not follow the rules to separate trash in their designated bin. Some solutions for these problems are taking loans to have funds for our equipment such as bins, trash cans and containers. The solution for the other problem would be to advertise the idea of putting trash in the correct place to the patient.
